Pierre Lallement Ride Sunday, May 4

This Sunday: the fourth annual Pierre Lallement Commemorative Bike RideOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ansonia resident Pierre Lallement filed the patent for the first pedal-powered bicycle in New Haven some 149 years ago, when he could be seen pedaling his contraption around the Green. Each May we honor this momentous invention with a bike ride to Ansonia.

The ride departs Lulu’s Coffeehouse at 10AM, passing through the New Haven Green around 10:15 (meet up at either location), following roughly this route.

The ride will conclude in Ansonia with the town’s third annual Festival of Bikes. We hope to see you there!

Take the “Bike Bus” to the Quinnipiac River Festival

Sunday, May 4th is the Quinnipiac Riverfest, presented by the Chatham Square Neighborhood Association. The 5th annual Riverfest features guided canoe tours, live music, food, magic shows, face painting and more.
Parking is tight so if you’re coming in from elsewhere in the area, come join the ‘Bike Bus’–a group ride from the New Haven Green to the riverfront. Assemble near the flagpole for an 11:00 a.m. departure and we should be joining the fun on Front St. by about 11:15.
Are you interested in adding a stop to the bike bus? Let us know and time it early enough so that you can meet us on the Green and ride over together.

ECC Board Issues Statement on Centerplan Proposal

Centerplan LetterThe New Haven Board of Alders will soon consider whether to approve a Land Disposition Agreement stipulating the terms of the sale of a 5.4-acre parcel of land between Career High School and the Waverly Townhouses to Centerplan Development. The board of directors of Elm City Cycling has issued a statement calling for that agreement to include terms guaranteeing the construction of a two-way, dedicated bikeway connecting Dwight St to Orchard St, with the goal of eventually creating a continuous link from the East Shore to Downtown, the future West River Greenway, and all neighborhoods between.
