The city of New Haven was awarded bronze-level Bike-Friendly Community status by the League of American Bicyclists. The Bike-Friendly Community designation comes after careful review of a comprehensive application submitted by city officials, examination of supplemental material and consultation with local cyclists, including board members of Elm City Cycling. We are proud to partner with New Haven to work towards our mission of making greater New Haven friendlier, safer and more accessible to pedestrians and people on bikes.

The Bike-Friendly America program includes Bike-Friendly Communities, Universities and Businesses. More than an assessment, the BFA program provides a roadmap and benchmarks for progress towards making our cities, business and universities even safer and more accessible. The bronze level is the first of five awards (followed by silver, gold, platinum and diamond-levels) and recognizes a community that is good and taking steps to be better. New Haven’s first application, in 2008, earned an ‘honorable mention’ and our bronze designation shows how far we have come–and shows a clear path that we now need to follow.
