Bike Parking Ordinance
We had a good meeting with the City Plan Commission on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011. They are currently working on an ordinance that would require bike parking for residential and commercial properties using the same metric used to determine automobile parking requirements. We asked that they draft language that would differentiate between long-term bike parking (for employees or tenants) and short-term bike parking (for customers or visitors).

+ New Haven Passes Complete Streets Legislation

+ New Haven Receives Grant for Union Station Bicycle Access
On June 23rd, 2008, the City of New Haven received a major grant for improving bicycle access and storage at Union Station. The grant will be combined with other city efforts and federal funding designed to improve commuter access to the station. Please see this news post for a summary of press coverage on the subject.
+ New Haven Applies for National Recognition as a Bicycle Friendly Community: Receives Honorable Mention
On March 20th, 2008, the City of New Haven submitted its application to the League of American Bicyclists. Please see our meeting minutes page for a copy of the application. The City received an Honorable Mention from LAB, and has asked for our assistance in pursuing full certification.

Get involved! Elm City Cycling holds public membership meetings on the second Monday of each month at 6:00 in City Hall. Several working groups are involved with New Haven's bike plan, traffic calming, education and enforcement issues. Missed a meeting but want to stay in the loop? + New Haven Petition for Safe Streets
Sign the petition to make New Haven more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. ECC is sponsoring the petition along with a number of other community groups and elected officials. Click here to sign the petition.
+ Bicycle Access on Trains
Metro North is in the process of purchasing new train cars for the New Haven-New York line. Encourage them to plan for bicycle access on all trains by writing the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council. Also, please contact your state senators and representatives about this issue.
