"A bicycle does get you there and more...the thin edge of danger to keep you alert and comfortably apprehensive. Dogs become dogs again and snap at your raincoat; potholes become personal...getting there is all the fun."

For the first time, DESK is running a bicycle leg of their annual motorcycle ride to raise money to support the soup kitchen in its mission to alleviate hunger.
Bike New Haven on a leisurely, 10 mile group ride in support of DESK! We'll ride city-endorsed bicycle routes past some of New Haven's finest green spaces in honor of DESK's sustainability campaign, and end with a celebratory BBQ. We'll have experienced ride guides from ECC, and a police escort to cork our intersections and keep us safe, so it will be smooth sailing through the streets of the city. If you've never toured New Haven by bike before, this will be a great way to start!
See http://www.ridetoendhunger.com/bicycle.php5 for full info on parking and registration, and detailed maps.
Please consider downloading a pledge form (see ride website above) and collecting donations of $5 or more to turn in at registration. DESK has been serving record numbers of people as operating expenses continue to increase, and every bit helps to support our critical mission.
Ride (and raise pledges) solo, or organize a team with your friends, congregation, school, workplace, department, or social/civic group--we'll recognize top fundraisers at a later date.
Don't have a bicycle? You can still support DESK by joining the entire group (motorcyclists, bicyclists, and supporters) at the BBQ lunch after the ride--starting at 1pm--at the Elks Lodge (522-524 State St.) for just $10 (BBQ is free for registered riders, with cash bar).
RSVP to receive updates, check out who else plans to attend....and please take a minute to pass along this invite to friends whether or not you can join us this year!
